what every parent dreads

Phone rings at work, and Dan says:
"don't freak out.. but Natasha just threw up twice and then passed out"

Whereupon I, of course, proceeded to freak out.

She had had a big lunch, and was running around playing when it happened, so we hoped it was nothing. After a bath and a change of clothes (plus daddy scrubbing down the car seat), she was acting fine. She asked to go to the park and proceeded to run around and play with her friends

she has friends!! they play! it's SO cute!! check it out!!
This was taken yesterday, after the puking/bath trauma had passed.

At dinner last night she hardly ate anything. which is not unusual at all because she typically has a good-sized afternoon snack She was obviously tired, and had a bit of runny nose which started in the morning, but still a happy camper. Went to sleep easily around 8. No problems at all. We turned the humidifier on because of the runny nose, and she went right to sleep.
Around 9:30 she started screaming her head off and right before I picked her up started puking again. Poor thing, she was so miserable and scared.. but she hadn't eaten much, so she didn't puke much, and she fell back asleep pretty quickly after we'd cleaned her up.

This morning Dan took her to the doctor who declared it to be viral croup - which explains the weird cough. We couldn't figure out if it was a cause or an effect of the vomiting, but it had seemed more like an effect since she was otherwise not coughing at all. She got an oral dose of steroids (which typically helps dramatically) and was sent on her way.

The symptoms usually get worse on the 2nd and 3rd night, so I'm not looking forward to that. And grandma and grandpa's trip this weekend will have to be postponed. This weekend is not going to the one had planned for :(

  1. I hope that by "passed out" you mean that she fell asleep. So sorry to hear about this; please keep us posted on her (hopefully quick) recovery. FEEL BETTER SOON, TASHA!!!

  2. Hope Natasha is feeling better by now! Did the doctor give you any clue as to how she may have gotten that? Scary.

  3. the doc said it's going around the island like crazy!

aside from when she was actively coughing and vomiting, it didn't seem to bother her at all. the steroid shot helped immediately and she didn't have a coughing fit again. after that it was just a mild cold.

a little cough lingered for about a week and a half with a runny nose, but she's all better now!
