Natasha gained more weight yesterday, and is now a little bigger than her birth weight at 4 lb 9.6 ozShe's eating 40 ccs at each feeding, which is enough to keep her off the IV, so there are no more needles!
Her bilirubin level was up to 8 this morning, but a slight increase was expected and this is well within the range of ok. She'll be tested again tomorrow morning, but we have at least today off the light
Which means more time holding her! Which is awesome. Makes it a whole lot harder to put her back down, but it's wonderful to just be able to sit and hold her without constantly checking the clock to see when the time is up
She was wide awake today for a little while.. more alert than I've ever seen her. I think she wore herself out though, because after looking all around and soaking things in for about 5 minutes, she couldn't keep her eyes open for nursing at all.
One other nifty thing now that she doesn't have an IV is that we can put some clothes on her. Till now the only clothing she's been able to wear aside from her diaper and a blanket is a hat.
I put a cute little top on her (onesies are out till she's off all the sensors) which she didn't seem to mind at all. Of course, in a total rookie move I put it on too soon after she ate and was laid back down in her box, so about five minutes later she spit up on it. So I took it back off. /sigh
We've got another one exactly like it, so when we head back this evening she'll get another wardrobe attempt.
Natasha is one week old today and making really good progress. Eating is going to be the last major hurdle for her, but she's got pretty good genes in that respect, so it's just a matter of time until she's off that last tube and can come home. Tomorrow is the day we start trying to nurse for real so hopefully she'll exceed everyone's expectations in that like she has in every other way since joining our world.

naturally i have been knitting up a storm.. preparing. since little missy arrived so early, she will have to wait for her hand knit goodies from aunt tammy.

oh guys this is such great news!! i've been out of the loop for a bit but thinking about you and sending you so much love and positive vibes. I will keep my fingers crossed for easy latching on (nursing lingo) and that like you said ,hopes that she exceeds everyone's expectations in that area!

BTW, love the title and decoration of the blog. Ben "got it" right away -- said, "Mom, you know, it's like the Chronicles of Narnia." He was worried that I didn't "get it" ... you know he is now smarter than we are (he thinks). It doesn't take long to get to that point!! Like the addition too of the "day clock" -- or maybe it was there before and I just noticed it. Love, Carolyn
