Natasha is definitely not having any problem keeping warm enough in the heat wave we had here today.. the nurse took a blanket off her this morning, and she's moved on to a nice summer hat (thanks Tania!)

The nurse this morning also commented on how feisty Natasha is, and my first response was "why, what'd she do?" I guess that makes me officially a parent ;)

Natasha is doing very well. Her weight is up slightly, to 4 lb 13.4 ozs and her jaundice seems to be gone.





She's starting to make a habit of peeing while her diaper is being changed, which would be much more problematic if she were a boy. She waits until the old diaper is gone and the new one is just being closed up and then the shower begins. She's done it to me twice and to a nurse once. I need to time it a bit better or we're going to go through a LOT of diapers

The nursing went pretty well today. She's got the latch on down, when she's interested, and and has no problem with the sucking/swallowing/breathing thing, which is often a challenge for preemies. She just gets tired and slows down and falls asleep. The first feeding was about 20 minutes of on and off eating, and the 2nd was about 10 minutes, but the pauses were much longer.

Tomorrow we're going to go for 3 feedings in a row without any extra milk being fed to her through the tube. And the lactation consultant should be there, so I can run the plan by her and have her sit with us while Natasha's eating to see if she has any suggestions.

The fun part about the plan is that since her eating is dependent on being awake and alert and interested, I have a good excuse to hold Natasha for hours while she decides if she feels like eating.
